Phishing Attacks

October 30, 2015, 12:00 am

You may have heard that many high-profile domain registrars are being targeted by a massive phishing attack against domain owners.

We have received reports that some of those attacks are using Tucows branded emails to target some of our resellers and possibly end users all over the world. The fraudulent emails claim that a particular domain name has been suspended and ask users to click a link. domainabuse@tucows.com.org is being used as “From” and “Reply-to” addresses.

In case you or your end users receive an email from tucows.com.org:

  • Do not click any links
  • Do not reply to the email
  • Do not call any phone numbers listed within the email

Blue Ribbon Run 5K a Success

October 9, 2015, 12:00 am

On September 19th, Byte hosted its 1st Annual Blue Ribbon Run for Prostate Cancer Education & Support. Despite the dreary morning, close to 70 runners and walkers joined us at 9am. As the race began, the clouds cleared and the weather turned out to be perfect for tackling the 3.1 miles through Leelanau county roads.

At age 23, Tom Barrons decided to start a small tech business with his little brother, Tim. Over the next 24 years, he has grown Byte Productions to what it is today. Owning a company with nine full-time employees and hundreds of happy customers, Tom has been an entrepreneur for over half his life!

Get to Know Our Summer Intern, Christopher Ransom

August 25, 2015, 12:00 am

Christopher just completed his summer internship with Byte Productions last week. It was a complete PLEASURE to have him assist Tom Barrons on multiple custom programming projects we had in house this summer.

On his last day, Chris stated this was the best job he's ever had. WHAT?!

He was also shocked that we didn't send him to fetch us coffee or wash our cars. (Too funny!)

Anyway, its been a week since he's left us and we are wishing Chris the best as he continues his education at Ferris State University.

National Cherry Festival's Boardman River Duck Race

July 9, 2015, 12:00 am

Today is the day!

The 28th Annual Boardman River Duck Race takes place at 4:00 pm at the Union Street Bridge in Downtown Traverse City. This annual event is part of "Kids Day" during the National Cherry Festival.

This year, Byte Productions sponsored a duck to compete in the corporate duck race which benefits youth groups with in the TC community.

When the Traverse City Optimist Club dropped off our mallard duck, we of course knew exactly what we would dress him up as. DUCK VADER!

Duck Vader

Duck Vader has been training all morning for the race and hope to continue to rule the galaxy today at 4pm.

Please join the Byte team at the Union Street Bridge by the Post Office to cheer him on! See you then and Happy Cherry Festival week!

Byte Productions is Relocating

June 11, 2015, 12:00 am

Byte Productions will move offices from Cherry Bend Road to the Old Towne Corner located at 8th & Cass on July 1, 2015.

The move stems from our growth in the last year and will enable us to maintain closer contact with our customers as well as provide a larger conference and meeting space.  We have spent the past 15 years located on Cherry Bend Road in Leelanau County.

“Being downtown and closer to many of our clients, has been a goal of ours for a while.  We will be celebrating 25 years in business in 2016 and it seemed like the perfect time to relocate and expand” says owner, Tim Barrons.

Customer Spotlight : Max's Service

May 18, 2015, 12:00 am

Max's Service

If you are driving downtown on a weekday morning, it's hard not to see a Max's Service truck out for delivery. A household name for over 60 years, Max's service has been a staple in the Traverse City community, selling and servicing appliances.

We are excited to announce the official launch of the new Max's Services website. What an amazing staff to work with, especially owner Jeff Owens.

After sifting through dozens of thank you cards Max's Service had received in the past six months, we included some testimonials in the website, which is proof that Max's Service is the best choice over the big box stores.

Grand Traverse Academy Logo

In April, we asked for your nominations and votes and we narrowed the pool down to three amazing nonprofits in our community for our website giveaway.

Our panel of judges deliberated and chose to donate a complete custom-designed website and two years free hosting to The Grand Traverse Academy. We are thrilled to be giving back to our community in this way and are excited about working with faculty and students to create an amazing online presence.

Hopefully we inspire some students to continue interest in the growing technology field!

North Mitten Half Marathon & 10K

May 15, 2015, 12:00 am

North Mitten Half & 10K

Generally, I run in a few 5K races every year, but this year I'm taking on a new challenge of running a 10K race or just over 6 miles.

I have to admit, I have NEVER consecutively run 6 miles before in my life but, I will this year!

I'll be participating in the North Mitten 10K happening May 24th at Crystal Mountain Resort. The North Mitten route consists of primarily flat, open trails on Crystal Mountain property and will not climb the mountain (thankfully)!

I'm really excited to participate in this race and encourage everyone to join me while spots are still open. The event will cap at 500 registrants.

Prices

Half Marathon
May 1-23, 2015: $55

Suttons Bay Floatilla is BACK

May 13, 2015, 12:00 am

A Northern Michigan favorite is back for 2015, the Suttons Bay Floatilla!

For those of you who aren't familiar with Floatilla, it's an awesome water event which takes place on Grand Traverse Bay. Participants bring kayaks and canoes and form a huge conglomerate of floating boats in attempt to break the Guinness World Book record.

The event has taken place in the past in 2012 & 2013. In 2013 Suttons Bay secured the world record. In 2014, the event was skipped and the world record was set in Upstate New York with  a number of 3,150.

This year, The Suttons Bay Floatilla hopes to have more than 3,151 kayaks and canoes registered by September 5th.
